A chance to teach survival to your children.

Survival Book 2

Instead of the usual children’s book I went to the “Daddy section” on the bookshelf and grabbed this to read to my 4 year old daughter last night. I know its important to read stories to children that they can recognize and relate to but I thought she might find this interesting. Wow I should of guessed. It took us a half hour to go through just a couple of pages. She had so many questions! We started with water which in the beginning turned into a health class. My daughter was very interested in why we need water and what it does in our body. Now she wants to try to make some of these water collecting methods in the back yard.

The book I chose is The Survival Handbook published by DK Publishing. Its not the end all be all of survival books but it has some great illustration that can really grab a child’s attention. If we are going to work prepping into our daily lives what better way then to teach a child the importance of self sufficiency and to top it off its a good chance to brush up on my own basics survival skills. I didn’t attempt to read the material as it might be over her head but instead I let her ask questions and we discussed what the people in the picture are doing. In the future I plan to start working through some of my books and make some recommendations. We should all have a well rounded library with knowledge from survival to canning and everything in between. I don’t depend on the internet to always be there. Books are great!
